Adrian Tuchel's work is the result of many years of gifted artistry combined with architectural accomplishment, fuelled by his great passion for travel. All this has materialised in his particular personal style through research into minimalism in drawing, transparency & brightness. Both his pen & ink drawing and his watercolours represent loved cities, often in unusual dream-like angles, discovered & rediscovered places, seen through his lens of de-constructivism, reducing the view to its essence. Adrian Tuchel is a member of the Society of Architect Artists in London and a member of Open Studios, Cambridge.

Una mostra tra sogno e realtà

Grande ritorno a Venezia di Adrian Tuchel, architetto ed artista grafico , membro della Società degli Artisti Architetti di Londra, degli Open Studios di Cambridge e delle Società Turner e Ruskin di Londra. Dopo i successi del 2009 con la mostra “Cambridge in Venice” , seguita nel 2010 dall’ esposizione “A homage to the Venetian Architects” durante la Biennale di Architettura, e successivamente anche nel 2012, 2014 and 2016 con esposizioni all’ Hotel Gritti e Danieli, a Palazzo Franchetti ed ai Magazzini del Sale, il prossimo 14 febbraio alle ore 18.00, verrà inaugurata al Caffè Florian una nuova mostra dell’artista inglese. Come dichiarato Marco Paolini, CEO dello storico Caffè Florian : « Adrian Tuchel ha scelto di regalarci questi attimi colorati del nostro Florian, del suo carnevale e di una Venezia che vorremmo fissare così per sempre, fermando il tempo. I suoi acquerelli trasmettono un sogno, quello di una città che il mondo ci invidia».
Dopo gli studi d’arte ed architettura, Tuchel ha attraversato diverse fasi artistiche, passando da lavori astratti a composizioni oniriche e floreali, per poi approdare al paesaggio architettonico raccontato attraverso la matita, l’inchiostro o l’acquarello. L’artista inglese, che vive con la famiglia a Cambridge, nel Regno Unito, grande appassionato di viaggi, ha eletto Venezia come “città del suo cuore”. Da parecchi anni ha cominciato a mappare la capitale della Repubblica Serenissima, con le sue isole e i sui ponti, con un percorso carico di emozioni attraverso tutti i sestieri di questo incredibile gioiello urbanistico e architettonico, una realtà unica, diversa da ogni altra città italiana e del mondo. Le opere di Tuchel dedicate a Venezia, sono cariche di luci e ombre.I suoi disegni sono visioni , tra acqua ed aria, viste non solo con gli occhi dell’artista, ma anche con quelli dell’architetto.
La mostra di Tuchel aperta al pubblico dal 15 febbraio , sarà visitabile sino al 14 marzo 2019 presso lo storico Caffè affacciato sulla piazza San Marco, che nel corso degli anni ha ospitato personalità illustri quali: Giuseppe Parini, Silvio Pellico, Lord Byron, Ugo Foscolo, Goethe, Charles Dickens, Marcel Proust, Gabriele D’Annunzio ed Eleonora Duse, Rousseau, Rubinstein, Stravinsky, Modigliani e Campigli,per menzionarne solo alcuni, un luogo speciale, che anche ai giorni nostri, è rimasto location d’eccellenza dove Venezia ed il mondo si incontrano.

Blame the Moon - Venice Carnival 2019 & Things to Do

Inside the world-famous Caffè Florian in Piazza San Marco, a hub for Carnival adventurers, is an exhibition of Adrian Tuchel's extraordinary watercolours. Adrian lives and works in Cambridge, but has chosen Venice as his favorite place. With a career as a graphic designer and architect, Adrian has invented a unique form of expression. He creates long watercolour panoramas of Venice painted on scrolls of specially designed paper. You know how you can switch your camera to take a panoramic photo? Like that, only Adrian does it by hand. Which means he has to draw with pencil on a flat surface, roll up the completed section, then continue for five or six lengths, unable to see the entire drawing until it is complete. Imagine the concentration!
The result is a series of delightful Venetian landscapes. That they are on show at Caffè Florian is especially meaningful, for Adrian is also a romantic, smitten by Venice. In his own words:
"...It was in 1982 that I first managed to realize my dream and savour what it means to taste a cup of coffee at Florian: a journey through history!
In this heady intoxicating atmosphere coalescing the sounds of the bells, the melody of the strings and the voices, a dream was born that I am continuing to live with my wakened eyes. After a romantic dinner with an attractive foreign girl I had only just encountered, on the steps next to the Caffè I kissed my future wife cradled in the background by Florian's eternal melody: it was the evening of Saturday, September 18, 1993."
Twenty-five years later, Adrian's lovely and vibrant wife, Barbara, was with him at the inauguration on Valentine's Day at the Caffè Florian, evidence that Venice still works her magic charm. You can see the watercolours through March 14. Go to Adrian Tuchel's site for more information.
